Your Life, Now in Full Color

On any typical day, I may spend as little as 5 minutes or an hour going through my social media news feeds. My time is usually consumed by scrolling past targeted advertisements, reading the (almost verbatim) comments about an ongoing sporting event, or enjoying the latest viral content. However, every so often, I come across something that is hard to place into words.

After seeing this video, it made me reminisce about a YouTube video I once saw of Carl Sagan’s Cosmos series explaining what a tesseract was.

Sagan’s explanation of a tesseract was a mind-blowing experience for me. However, it pales in comparison to watching someone see certain colors for the first time. The more I watched this video (and the many other video’s like it) the more I had to learn about this technology and how it worked.

To understand how the product works, we first must understand how the eye works. The eye contains millions of retinal cone cells. Each retinal cone cell is color specific and responds to specific frequencies of light. The three different types of cone cells respond to either green, blue, or red frequencies. Individuals that experience color blindness have a hard time telling colors apart from each other because their eyes are unable to see colors under normal light.

The secret behind their patent pending technology is a special type of filter. The filter that Enchroma developed is based on a series of computer simulations and sophisticated models. Once light enters the glass lens, the filter allows the overlapping red and green cones to become separated. Once certain colors are filtered out, the user can more accurately see the colors that surround them.

The glasses and lenses range from $269 to $429 and will include free shipping in the US. Global shipping is an available option at an additional cost. There is a 60 day no-hassle return policy on all purchases. If the glasses ever need to be repaired, Enchroma offers its services for only $49. The frames come in several very stylish options (some seen below). however they offer a ‘Fit To Frame Service’ for $349 which allows you to fully customize your look the way that you would want to.

Frame names and price points are as follows: Frame Ellis has a price point of $349, frame Atlas has a price point of $429, frame Canyon has a price point of $429, frame Addison has a price point of $349, frame Kittredge has a price point of $429, and frame Gamma II has a price point of $349.

There is no question how much of an impact this technology has for those with varying degrees of color blindness. New innovations helping the blind and visually impaired are an exciting new avenue for technology firms. Enchroma offers this innovative solution and brings it to market at a very reasonable price.
